NIHR is Receives Head of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received Mr. Gregory Bledjian, Head of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, in the presence of Mr. Clemens Hatch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain, at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Derazi welcomed Mr. Bledjian and explained the NIHR’s action mechanism and its role in spreading, promoting, and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  Al-Derazi also reviewed the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law and the mechanism for its effective implementation by providing appropriate rehabilitation programmes for convicts, reviewing at the same time the outputs of the International Conference on Alternative Sanctions that the NIHR has recently organised.

They also discussed a number of issues of common interest and enhancing aspects of cooperation between the two sides in the human rights and legal field, especially with regard to organising workshops, exchanging expertise and successful experiences and training national staff in the field of spreading the culture of human rights.

For his part, Mr. Bledjian expressed his thanks for the warm reception, stating the importance of the NIHR’s role in protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people further progress and prosperity.
